In her 15 years as an educator, Crystal has taught a wide variety of subjects and students including high school performing arts, middle school English, elementary music, and play based preschool. She earned her BA in English before continuing on to a post-graduate study in education at San Jose State University. Her dream is to expand Sprout and Spark to serve elementary and middle school students as well as preschoolers.
Crystal enjoys anything that allows her to flex her creative muscles, especially cooking, writing, and composing elaborate impromptu operettas with her two (soon to be three) kids.
After spending the last decade designing electric airplanes at Ampaire and getting rockets off the ground (and back on the ground again) at Space X, Jason can't wait to bring his technical expertise and love of science and engineering to our school. Jason is our do-everything and make-everything guy: fences and furniture, sonic shelters and structurally sound sandboxes.
A devoted father of two young boys, Jason also enjoys playing guitar, designing tabletop games, and creating beautiful and precise CAD drawings.
Lead Nature Guide (Forest)
After graduating with an English Education degree, William spent three years working as an instructor at a wilderness therapy program in North Carolina's Blue Ridge Mountain range. After the birth of his son, Fisher, he taught in a middle school special education classroom, while also driving a school bus in the mornings. He moved to the Portland area with his family in 2019, where he began work as an instructor at Trackers Earth for the summer seasons while teaching at Waldorf school during the 2019-2020 school year.
William has a deep love of the outdoors, and spends a great deal of time either hiking or going on strolls in local parks with his family. He is also a musician who plays guitar and keyboard.
Lead Montessori Guide (Forest)
Mariah brings 14 years of professional experience in early childhood education. Her path began when she worked at a Montessori school while earning a BA in Human Studies from Marylhurst University. She was awarded an AMI 3-6 Montessori teaching certificate from Montessori Northwest in 2010. She completed children’s yoga teaching training through Yoga Calm in 2016 and taught yoga and mindfulness summer camps for several years after. Before joining the Sprout and Spark teaching team, she founded a Montessori, Reggio and RIE inspired micro preschool in her home. The opportunity to follow the children's interests and share in their wonder and discovery fuels her work.
When she’s not in the classroom, Mariah can be found practicing yoga, working in her garden with her pet chickens or exploring the outdoors with her husband and son, Shepard.

Allison O'Day is a rock star. She is a classically trained AMI Montessorian who owned and operated a children's house for nearly two decades. At Sprout and Spark, Allison has rededicated herself to her passion for teaching art and helping children learn to express themselves through painting, clay, collage, sewing, loose parts, and larger-than-life art installations.
Sprout and Spark is incredibly fortunate to have her sharing her gifts with our community.
Assistant to the Guides (Meadow)
At the age of 12, Chelsea started her journey in childcare as a babysitter. She knew had a passion for children and wanted to spend her free time inspiring and enjoying them. At the age of 14 she started volunteering in her church's nursery on Sunday mornings. She also volunteered in various children's summer program including Vacation bible school and Outdoor school. Then, as an adult, she spent time working in a certified daycare before she had children of her own. She took a break from working to be with her children and is now getting back into the field. She has always loved kids and thoroughly enjoys guiding them in learning new things. She has a huge passion for helping kids feel safe, secure, and understood in their journeys of learning and growing into the next generation of adults.
She is a mother of 2 beautiful children, Garrett and Ezra. Garrett is 5-year-old Autistic boy and Ezra is a 3-year-old boy. She is a single mom and sole provider of her children. She loves playing soccer, camping, hiking, gardening, swimming, and cooking. She is passionate about woodworking and photography and looks forward to sharing these arts with the children.
Lead Montessori Guide (Marsh)
Breanne has always loved working with children. She loves watching them grow and gain new skills and discover new interests. She began babysitting at the age of sixteen and has worked as a nanny for about ten years. Breanne has previously worked in three different infant/toddler Montessori classrooms as well before coming to Sprout and Spark. She attended Washington State University in Vancouver, Washington and earned her Bachelor's degree in Human Development with a focus on Early Childhood Development. She is working on completing her last classes in her Montessori training for her infant/toddler teaching credential.
Breanne grew up outside of Seattle, Washington and has been in the Portland area for about ten years. She lives with her husband, five year old son Kane, infant son Rhys and her pug. She enjoys cooking, reading, watching movies, doing yoga, hiking and going to the beach.
Lead Reggio-Emilia Guide (Marsh)
Nicole has been working with children for about 8 years in various settings. They started out working while in school at University of Washington in bilingual classrooms through an Americorps program. After graduating they worked as the early learning coordinator at a Reggio inspired elementary school in N Portland, called Kairospdx. Most recently they worked at a Reggio based childcare center as a toddler and preschool teacher. Nicole has experience working in culturally specific and trauma responsive environments. As an educator Nicole values anti-bias approaches to teaching and learning and works to create safe and comfortable spaces for children to grow into who they are. They believe that children excel when they are active participants in their learning, and that families are the first and most important teachers for their children.
Outside of the classroom Nicole enjoys listening to music (especially hip hop and indie/rock) and spending time with their 4 nephews and cat Rue. They like to go to shows (outside of covid times) and listen to podcasts, Planet Money and Codeswitch are a few of their favorites.
Assistant to the Guides (Marsh)
Aleecia has worked with Newborns, Infants and Toddler aged children for many years. Her journey started, as the oldest sibling to eleven younger siblings in the household growing up. Three years ago, she became a Certified Birth and Postpartum Doula, who serves BIPOC families in low income communities. By doing this work, she has taken various trauma informed and culturally specific trainings to better support the communities she serves. Aleecia is also a Nanny and before joining Sprout and Spark, she worked as an Infant Teacher and filled in as a Substitute Teacher when needed for other classrooms. She believes the best thing about working with young children is watching them grow into their own and being a part of those developmental milestones and finds enjoyment in celebrating young children in their accomplishments every chance she gets. Aleecia, is an Oregon native and finds it difficult to move anywhere due to just how beautiful it is here. Outside of work, she enjoys going on hikes, trips to the coast or a hot spring, and spending time with her husband, their son Bennee and dog Toby.
